Patient Pals & Family Friends

Life o' Mike has a new peer support program for people newly diagnosed with chronic or serious illness or with a new disability and their caregivers.
Patient Pals are people who have experience with various illnesses and disabilities, who can help someone newly diagnosed or with a new disability work through the fear, frustration, confusion and grief often experienced in the first few months.
Family Friends are there to help caregivers and other family members grow into their new role.
People with new illness or disability fare better when they have a role model -- someone who can help them negotiate their new path in life.
We need volunteers, who are asked to donate a minimum of one hour a week. Training is free and includes information on active listening, ways to help and when to know more help is needed.
And of course, we need funding.

Maybe your Parent’s are my age if they are you should start praying for them now–
I lost my hip @ 62 with Arthritis if for some reason that would happend to me again– maybe in a couple of year’s they would say she is too old–
If my Cancer returns after 3yrs.& 7 mos.– They would say what Obama said well maybe we should give her pain killer’s– OH NO NOT FOR ME–
WHEN I GROW UP– I WANT TO BE AN OLD WOMEN– Thank you–
I totally disagree with this health care bill.We do not need the government beaurocracy. How anyone can think the government can provide health care to everyone and not increase health care costs is living in a fantasy world. The president is trying to rush this bill through without most of both house and senate reading it.I also do not want tax money funding abortion.I hope and pray that our politicians will take their time and carefully read this bill and think of the people and if this plan is so good let them sign up for it.I also resent the ad by harry and louise making this commercial and trivializing this important bill.It is totally partisan and yes I PRAY that they will scrap this bill and start over
instead of trying to shove this down our throats.
fix fraud in Medicaid torte reform increase competition allow to buy across state lines. Other than that keep the government especially the Pelosi,Reed, Obama government out of my health care.
I don’t trust harry&louise.org ads.
They opposed health care program in 1993 during Clinton. Now they flipped and made ads for Obama health care program. Those people just make ads for their advantage and profit. That is all they care.
This organization changes views depending on their profit. We should ship these people over Iran border.
They’re actors, not real people. They didn’t flip personally, their CHARACTERS did. They are actors who were hired by organizations (Families USA and the pharmaceutical trade organization, Pharma) to do the ads. No need to wish death on those who disagree with you.
We’re not talking about a government takeover of the industry, but about a CHOICE for people who are unhappy with their insurance and for people who can’t get insurance. Do you really think my son deserved to die because he couldn’t get insurance because of a birth defect? If so, we’re done talking. If not, let’s figure out a way to get people the care they need and deserve.
Do you honestly believe this? I was tempted to do much of the same and I’m not getting paid by anyone. To make such an demonizing statement, can anyone making this claim produce one statement showing a transfer of funds. If not, this is nothing more than an assumption and a lie. I love this cause, but it doesn’t need to be cast into a shadow of bias like statements like this do.
That and I noticed my comment about our meeting with the congressman is not posted. We had him go in specific detail explain how this would be a government take-over with the edition of time. He specifically went in to detail about the duration effect of the public option and how it would put private industry out of business. I am and will to continue to support the challenge of health care for everyone, but it should be addressed in a manner that is completely above reproach. Mike would have wanted transparency in dealing with any topic, certainly one of this magnitude.
I do remember that meeting, and I have approved every comment from you that I have seen.
I remember him saying we could get a single-payer system gradually. I don’t think the public plan was what he was talking about, though. I think he was talking about expanding Medicare and/or Medicaid. It’s been awhile, though and I could be wrong about that.
I don’t think a public plan has to lead to a government takeover, and I do want people to have choices. There are countries that have developed a hybrid system like the one in the bill, and it has stayed a partnership between public and private. I would hope we could do that here.
I heard you on Ed’s show… Thanks.
It is interesting seeing the posted talking points provided by the GrassRoots………..
I have struggled with insurance coverage for years, Pre-x….
It is morally wrong to profit from human suffering. Supporters of WealthCare are being used.
Keep up the fight…

I cannot believe the hysteria of people opposed to health care. They have no problem with having a private company drop them at a moments notice, deny their claims, or decide their live is not worth enough to pay for payments, while their CEO’s make millions in salary alone each year.
Suggest the government should give insurance companies a run for their money, and give citizens an alternative and folks freak out that they are going to be killed off. The people that are the most animated about this are often on Medicare and they ALREADY HAVE GOVERNMENT RUN INSURANCE – Medicare.
Let’s face it for the boomers and older to get the level of services they expect, both private and public, they need people my age and my children’s ages healthy as long as possible to support them. If we are dead or disabled due to preventable diseases, who will cover your Medicare payment then?
Is your life worth more than the life of my 39 sister-in-law who is diabetic or my 6 year old nephew who suffered injuries due to poor medical treatment at his birth? They are both one layoff away from losing health care for ever. We live in a pretty affluent area and all hold down jobs and pay taxes. Why are private companies allowed to force us between financial ruin or death?
Here’s the question… A group of CEO’s profiting fiscally off of your health care(and lack there of) or a group of politicians using it as a viable power grab of your civil liberties(and lack there of according to the CBO which shows %19 still not covered in the current bills after 10 years), which would you prefer? Or, we could go with something at a state level that has already been shown to work, keeps the industry from bankrolling people, and keeps the government from having total dominance over personal freedoms. Those on both sides apart from this proven strategy seem to have more political motivations at play than just health care. Either they want to push an big-business/anti government agenda, or they believe that the government intervention of our lives will somehow lead to a better result. Either way is not feasible to the endurance of both personal freedom and viable health care. I sincerely wish people would consider the method that has worked rather than trying to revitalize methods proven to fail over time.

And yes, we have a system called medicare that is government paid/controlled… It’s also going bankrupt. We have a Postal service, as our president pointed out… It’s also going to be $7Billion in the hole this year.
Is it to much to agree that the government may be needed for help, but that it need be limited because of how horridly they handle money?
