I’ve had calls all day long from people who want to be at the rally, including one from the local NAACP, which is exciting to me. The more the merrier. But I said on two radio interviews today that there will be no name-calling and no trying to drown out other people.
Mike asked me to keep it positive before he died, and that’s what I intend to do. I’m more than a little tired — meetings and radio interviews started at 7:30 this morning and went until 6, with telephone calls inbetween each one.
This could be the time we see meaningful reform in health care. Maybe we can name the reform bill after the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, who fought for 40 years to bring about health care for all Americans.
As other politicians ran away from the label of liberal in the 1980s, Kennedy stood his ground. He never backed away from what he believed was the right and moral thing to do for his country.
Yes, his personal life was a shambles for awhile, but that shouldn’t detract from his greatness as a public servant.
Perhaps his death will inspire the rest of us to fight harder for reform in his memory. I know I will.
