In the news

We had about 1,000 at our rally in Washington, DC yesterday. Chck out the story at DC’s ABC News 7: http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0909/658948.html.
Too tired to write anything more now. I’ve been awake for almost all of the last 48 hours. But the trip was worth the effort.

Ready to go

In a little over an hour, I’m leaving for Washington, DC, to rally for health care for all. I know conservatives were there by the tens of thousands today and I doubt we’ll have those numbers. But we have no national sponsorship or affiliations.
This is so grassroots they didn’t even have a battery-powered microphone and [...]

Check it out

I was on WLOS again last night and this morning: http://www.wlos.com/shared/newsroom/top_stories/wlos_vid_877.shtml
Courtney Brennan called and asked if she coould do a profile of me and I agreed. I kept it upbeat and talked about my advocacy and how I advocated for health care, mental health care, living wages, affordable housing and more through telling people’s stories [...]

The rally is still on

Julie had some trouble with the permit, but the rally is on and the bus has only a few seats left. E-mail lifeomike@gmail.com for more details.

It’s a good start

I listened to the president’s address tonight, and it was a good speech with a decent plan.
It won’t cover every American, but it will clean up much of the health care mess in the country today.
A marketplace exchange — illegal in many states — would help a lot of Americans afford care. Making it illegal [...]

10 seats left

I have chartered the bus and seats are $55 each. I have 10 left. We’re meeting at 2 a.m. Sunday at the Biltmore Square Mall and coming back after the rally, so we’ll arrive at Biltmore Square about 1 a.m.
We’ll stop for fast food along the way, but bring snacks and water or soft drinks.
If [...]

Help Life o’ Mike

We need your help now more than ever. Your tax-deductible donation will help us get Patient Pals and Family Friends off the ground. Please consider a gift in honor or in memory of a loved one. Donate here or mail your donation to Life o' Mike, PO Box 1213, Asheville, NC 28802.

Patient Pals & Family Friends

Life o' Mike has a new peer support program for people newly diagnosed with chronic or serious illness or with a new disability and their caregivers. Patient Pals are people who have experience with various illnesses and disabilities, who can help someone newly diagnosed or with a new disability work through the fear, frustration, confusion and grief often experienced in the first few months. Family Friends are there to help caregivers and other family members grow into their new role. People with new illness or disability fare better when they have a role model -- someone who can help them negotiate their new path in life. We need volunteers, who are asked to donate a minimum of one hour a week. Training is free and includes information on active listening, ways to help and when to know more help is needed. And of course, we need funding. To learn more, call Leslie Boyd at 828-243-6712 or e-mail lifeomike@gmail.com.
